, #sometimes i get sick of fandom kakashi when he’s portrayed all sexy or brooding #hence the reason why i take long breaks from writing him i legit get sick of him #and reminders that he’s a kooky bastard who doesn’t give a shit gives me #life
I so know what you mean girl!
Although GDI, i’m new to this shipdom ok—- i don’t think i’ve had enough fix of broody Kakashi. Please don’t get fed up with it just yet!
haha. But I’m with you esp on the sexy part. It was never my headcanon of him tbh
I don’t mind broody Kakashi if I were being totally honest. More than anyone, he has the right to be broody. But if you get right down on to it, what is most true in Kakashi’s character is that he doesn’t brood about his life. He has a persona of being lazy and uncaring and careless because that’s how he’s survived all these years. He does take things very much to heart but he has a different brand of optimism than Naruto’s but at the heart of Kakashi, he is an optimist. And broody fandom Kakashi usually comes with sex god kakashi who I hate with the fire of a thousand suns. I refuse to write a sexualized kakashi because I’m not here to pander to people who have a crush on his character. I’m here to explore his complex character and I find broody, sex god kakashi usually reeks of OOC-ness, and I don’t enjoy it at all.
Well, it depends on exactly what you mean by brooding. I agree to a point, but I personally see it a little bit differently. (Warning: This is going to be long. Bear with me or run away while you still can)
I would argue that, by definition, Kakashi is a brooding character. But not in the way we’ve seen most characters in the series brood. I think Kakashi is more of the Itachi type when it comes to his own personal suffering: He’s quiet, distant and closed.
I think the Kakashi in fiction who broods openly in front of people is certainly OoC (but I personally don’t have an issue with these fics). But if we’re talking about in general, then I would definitely classify him as a brooder. An inner brooder.
Did you know Kakashi has a journal? It’s right here:
This right here is the only place in the world, beyond his mind, that Kakashi will be the real him. He apologizes, calls himself trash, worthless and more all right here, when he’s alone. It’s what’s really going on in his mind; Not porn, not kooky thoughts, but regret, depression, pain and sadness.
The only person in the world that I’ve ever seen Kakashi, the real Kakashi, come out in front of openly is Obito. As Obito relentlessly attempted to beat him to death, Kakashi does nothing but sit there, take it and think about all of his regrets and what a horrible person he thinks he is instead of trying to save himself.
http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/608/12 (“You don’t have to become like me.” )
http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/630/15 (“I’m just a piece of trash..”)
He calls himself trash and a worthless shinobi in front of the man responsible for mass murder, the Akatsuki and the death of Naruto’s parents.
And I don’t think that’s just because of the situation, either: All Kakashi said in front of Obito is the same thing he said in front of his supposed grave for all those years. Only now it’s even worse, now that Kakashi feels the weight of responsibility for the way Obito turned out, and the weight of responsibility for everything Obito did in part because of him.
So I wouldn’t go so far to say that Kakashi isn’t a brooder, or that the fandom made that up somehow. I actually think what the fandom does OOC sometimes, as I said before, is make Kakashi into this person that openly complains and sulks in front of his friends, comrades and teams. That isn’t really Kakashi, who prefers to be alone during times like this and never really opens up to anyone about it. In front of people, Kakashi is just serious, calm, uncaring and kooky every now and then, and while all of those things might be his legitimate personality, I think he’s clearly hiding that pain and urge to throw himself under the bus..because whenever he steps in front of that stone, it’s all he really does.
Whether people like or dislike this attribute of him, I think it’s just something that comes along with the package for him. It’s his main character flaw that he needs to overcome, and while it’s been an extremely slow pace..
He is showing signs of development and getting past this pain that holds him back. I think Kishi is pushing Kakashi in that direction, where he’ll find peace and finally move on from this low self-esteem of his, and finally accept himself as a good, decent person.
I certainly don’t think brooding is all there is to Kakashi, so I definitely agree there, and I don’t think he’s an open complainer that goes around whining, seeking revenge or blaming others and the world for everything bad happening (Obito). I just think that brooding does exist within him..but silently, and endures it instead of letting it completely control his life, and I think and hope we’re moving towards him overcoming it by the end of manga. Whether he finds peace through living out his life, or death, is what I think remains to be seen
I don’t have a lot to add here, but I think this is an interesting convo about my favorite character. :)
I personally think he internalizes everything. I think there can be a lot of masked (lol sorry) sadness/etc emotion there, but it’s something he chooses to not indulge in unless he’s forced to answer to it or maybe only thinks about when he’s alone.
My unpopular headcannon is that he’s actually a virginfor various reasons, but I enjoy writing him as an experienced smex master.
